A suspect was being held on $1 million bail Wednesday morning in connection with a shooting in Cabazon that critically wounded two people.
The shooting occurred about 10:20 a.m. Sunday in a parking lot in the 48300 block of Seminole Drive, near the Malki Road exit off westbound Interstate 10, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The suspect, identified as Erick Jones, 43, of North Las Vegas, got into an argument with three people in a vehicle, then pulled a firearm and opened fire, critically wounding two victims, the department said.
About 4:30 p.m., police in Barstow spotted a Chevrolet Express Van that was reported used in a shooting and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was detained without incident, but Jones, who was in the passenger seat, jumped into the driver seat and fled northbound on Interstate 15, according to the Barstow Police Department.
Police and California Highway Patrol officers pursued Jones until spike strips were deployed and the van was stopped near Afton Canyon Road, about 30 miles south of Baker, the department said.
Jones surrendered to officers and a gun was found in the van, police said.
The names of the victims were not disclosed.
