A Glendora resident found several sticks of “very old dynamite” in their basement Saturday, triggering the evacuation of the entire street and a sheriff’s bomb squad response.
The discovery was reported about 1:30 p.m. in the 200 block of East Bennett Avenue, said Glendora police Sgt. Shanna Celello.
There were 12 to 20 sticks dating back to the early 1900s, Celello said.
The entire block was evacuated as a precaution and a shelter was set up in the American Legion Building, she said.
The bomb squad had removed the dynamite from the home by 7:40 p.m. and destabilized it so it could be burned, she said.
The city’s police department tweeted, “If you see smoke in the air, that is to be expected.”
