Authorities Thursday identified a man who police say was killed while driving a stolen car that crashed in Monterey Park while officers were pursuing the vehicle.
Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck Division officers had spotted the stolen Honda CRV about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and tried to pull it over, but the driver fled, the LAPD reported.
The driver lost control of the Honda in the 1600 block of Corporate Center Drive, slammed into a tree and died at the scene, according to the LAPD.
He was identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as Fernando Lopez, 23, of Los Angeles. A woman passenger in the vehicle was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
