A suspect was fired upon in Industry Tuesday evening by a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, but not hit.

The shooting was reported about 7:30 p.m. in the 18200 block of Gale Avenue, near Fullerton Road, according to Deputy Abraham Bedoyan.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in traffic crash, Bedoyan said. Details of the crash and what led to the shooting were not immediately disclosed.

No deputies were injured.

Per department policy anytime a deputy fires at a suspect, multiple investigations are started, including separate probes by the sheriff’s Internal Affairs Bureau, as well as the deputy’s station or Detective Division investigators.

The department also immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General, which sends a representative to the scene and provides independent oversight during the investigation. The sheriff’s Executive Force Review Committee evaluates the investigation once it is concluded.
