Police Tuesday sought the public’s assistance to identify the assailant who attacked and fatally injured a man on the west end of Riverside last weekend.

The deadly assault happened about 6:20 a.m. Sunday in the 6100 block of Crest Avenue, near Cypress Avenue, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Officer Javier Cabrera said patrol officers were called to the location to investigate reports of a man down and found the victim bleeding from “multiple wounds,” but he declined to specify the exact nature of the injuries.

“The victim was treated at the scene, then transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries,” Cabrera said.

The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of his family.

Homicide detectives took over the investigation, but ave yet to identify the assailant.
