A transient was fatally stabbed in the courtyard of an Anaheim hotel Friday.
The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was in his 30s, said Anaheim police Sgt. Steve Pena.
About 12:10 a.m., a caller told police there was a fight that led to a stabbing, Pena said.
Police found the victim, who had at least one stab wound to the chest, in the courtyard at the Clementine Hotel and Suites, 1700 S. Clementine St., Pena said. The man was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 12:45 a.m., Pena said.
The anonymous tipster gave police a suspect description and when officers approached someone who looked like the suspect, he took off running, Pena said. Police later found him on the roof of the 24 Hour Fitness center at the Gardenwalk shopping center, but the man had an alibi corroborated by surveillance video, so they let him go, Pena said.
