A motorcyclist fatally injured when his bike skidded out of control on the Ortega (74) Highway west of Lake Elsinore and slammed into a guardrail was identified Friday as a 23-year-old Nuevo man.

Ahkin Inniss died Thursday immediately after the crash near Lookout Point, roughly two miles west of Grand Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Inniss was riding a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle westbound about 5 p.m. when he entered a curve while going just over 50 mph.

“The victim was unable to negotiate the curve,” CHP Officer Mike Lassig said. “He left the roadway and traveled onto the right dirt shoulder.”

Lassig said Inniss attempted to brake but careened into the wood and metal guardrail, at which point he was “ejected from the motorcycle and onto the shoulder.”

Passing motorists immediately stopped, and several attempted CPR on the motorcyclist, according to Lassig.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location less than 15 minutes later and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Both sides of the 74 were shut down for an hour while first responders conducted their work. The highway was partially reopened shortly after 6 p.m. and fully reopened later in the evening.
