A man was killed Monday morning when he drove his car onto the former Expo Line track in Baldwin Hills, through a fence and into Bollona Creek.
The crash was reported at 1:53 a.m. around Jefferson and National boulevards, according to a dispatcher at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Operations Center.
An LAPD traffic sergeant told a news videographer at the scene the man was speeding and drove onto the former light rail right of way and crashed through a fence before landing in the channel.
The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
