The Orange County Violent Gang Task Force was serving a number of federal and state warrants Wednesday as part of an investigation targeting an Orange County-based street gang, according to the FBI’s Los Angeles field office.
“The Orange County Violent Gang Task Force and its partners are executing twelve federal search warrants this morning, as well as one federal arrest warrant, one state arrest warrant and probation compliance checks, as part of an investigation targeting an Orange County-based street gang,” FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said in a statement.
“Several federal and local tactical teams were utilized during the service of the warrants,” Eimiller added. “The affidavits supporting the search warrants have been sealed by a federal judge.”
In addition to the FBI and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, the task force was also assisted by the Santa Ana, Anaheim, Fullerton and Newport Beach police departments, the IRS Criminal Investigation Department, the Criminal Investigation Task Force and the Orange County Probation Office.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation were also participating in the continuing investigation.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the federal case and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the state charges.
