A Rialto police officer was injured Tuesday when his unmarked vehicle collided with a big rig on the north end of Riverside.

The collision happened about 10 a.m. at the intersection of Alamo and Main streets, just east of the Pomona (60) Freeway, according to Riverside Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff DeLaurie.

The policeman’s unmarked unit and a tractor-trailer collided, causing the vehicle to spin off of the road and into a parked car, leaving the lawman trapped, he said.

“Firefighters used hydraulic tools to remove the driver’s side door to access the officer,” DeLaurie said. “He was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

The officer’s identity was not disclosed. There was no immediate word on what he was doing in Riverside.

The trucker was not hurt.

Riverside police were investigating the crash.
