Riverside police shot and killed a vandalism suspect Tuesday afternoon as he ran away while carrying a gun.
The shooting was reported at 4:50 p.m. at University and Cranford avenues, said Riverside police Officer Javier Cabrera.
The officers were called to the scene on a vandalism report and the man started running with a gun in one hand when officers arrived, Cabrera said.
The officers shot him and performed CPR on the suspect but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Cabrera said. A gun was recovered.
A second vandalism suspect was taken into custody, he said.
No officers were injured, according to Cabrera.
The department’s Force Investigation Division and Riverside County District Attorney’s Office were investigating the shooting, he said.
