One person was killed Wednesday evening in a fiery head-on collision in El Monte.
The crash occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on Santa Anita Avenue north of Valley Boulevard, said El Monte Police Department Lt. Christopher Cano.
A southbound Toyota 4Runner apparently crossed the center median and collided with a northbound Cadillac sedan before bursting into flames, Cano said.
The driver was the only occupant of the 4Runner and was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
A family of four inside the Cadillac was taken by paramedics to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Cano said.
Santa Anita Avenue was expected to remain closed through early morning between Valley Boulevard and Bryant Road for the investigation.
