A motorist was injured and left trapped in a multi-vehicle wreck at a San Jacinto intersection Thursday.
The crash happened about 3:50 p.m. on Highway 79 at the Ramona Expressway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said four vehicles impacted on the northbound side of the 79, though the circumstances were unclear.
A motorist at the wheel of a Honda sedan was wedged inside his car because of the collision, which prompted Riverside County sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers to shut down both northbound lanes, according to reports from the scene.
County fire crews reached the location within a few minutes and deployed hydraulic equipment to free the victim, whose injuries were not specified.
He was extricated less than an hour later and taken to a trauma center for treatment.
The occupants of the other vehicles did not require medical attention, the CHP said.
The southbound side of the 79 remained open during the extrication and investigation.
As of 4:45 p.m., the northbound side of the highway remained shut down.
