Three men pleaded not guilty Thursday in connection with an unprovoked, gang-related shooting of a man in Anaheim.

The three allegedly confronted a man and attempted to intimidate him, which escalated into a physical assault that led to a shooting about 10:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in the 2500 block of East Park Lane, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer.

The victim, who was shot and hospitalized, was not involved in a gang, Carringer said.

Leonard Michael Alvarez, 32, is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of discharge of a firearm at an inhabited dwelling, two counts of assault with a firearm, a count of possession of a firearm by a felon and a count of a prohibited person owning ammunition, all felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancements for gang activity, discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury, discharge of a firearm, inflicting great bodily injury on a victim.

Co-defendant Mario Salgado, 29, is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, a count of participation in a gang activity, and brandishing a deadly weapon in a criminal street gang, all felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancements for gang activity.

Co-defendant Jose Antonio Garcilazo, 25, is charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, a count of participating in criminal street gang activity, brandishing a deadly weapon in a criminal street gang and a count of vandalism, all felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancements for gang activity.
