A Long Beach city employee was arrested Thursday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl 10 years ago.
Paul Skelly, 35, was arrested after Long Beach Police Department officers responded to a report of sexual abuse against a child that occurred in the area of Carson Street and Orange Avenue approximately 10 years ago, police said.
The victim came forward with information of the alleged assault and reported it to police on Jan. 10.
Skelly is a family acquaintance of the victim and a 13-year city government employee who was assigned to the Department of Financial Management. Police arrested him at his workplace at 2600 N. Temple Ave. at 3:45 p.m.
Skelly will be suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation, police said.
Skelly is being held on $100,000 bail.
Investigators said they believe there may be additional victims who were acquainted with Skelly and did not release a photo.
