Three people were left stranded — and one injured — when their vessel capsized Monday in Lake Elsinore, requiring firefighters to launch a rescue boat to retrieve them from the water.

The mishap occurred about noon in the middle of the lake, directly south of the marina on Riverside Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Either a small boat or jet ski — it wasn’t immediately clear which — overturned, dumping the three occupants into the lake, where they remained with the upside-down vessel as it floated.

A Lake Elsinore public works crew witnessed what happened and called 911, according to reports from the scene.

One of the victims suffered unspecified abdominal injuries. The other two were not hurt.

Firefighters transported a Cal Fire rescue boat to the lake about 35 minutes later and picked up the victims.

The patient with the stomach injury was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar in moderate condition, according to reports from the scene.

The cause of the capsize was under investigation.
