A suspect was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department Thursday after leading officers on a chase from West Covina to the Crenshaw district.

Police began pursuing a black Audi driven by the suspect at about 7 p.m. on the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway at Puente Avenue, said Officer Tony Im with the LAPD’s Media Relations Division.

Im initially described the driver as a potential murder suspect, but could not confirm the suspicion.

The suspect led police onto the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway, eventually exiting at Vernon Avenue in South Los Angeles. The suspect pulled over in the area of Vernon Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard and police took him into custody, Im said.

No information was released regarding the events leading up to the chase.
