A 40-year-old man was killed and a second man critically wounded in a suspected gang-related shooting in Long Beach early Friday morning.

Officers responded to the 1900 block of Canal Avenue at about 1:35 a.m. on reports of shots fired, according to a Long Beach Police Department statement.

Police found a man suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body lying in the street in the area of Canal Avenue and Summit Street.

Officers followed a blood trail to a rear alley area where they found a man in a garage suffering gunshots to his upper body, police said. The officers provided aid to both men until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived.

Daniel Jacinto, 40, of Long Beach was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Investigators said they believe the victims and the suspect knew each other and the shooting stemmed from a dispute between them, according to police.

No weapons were found at the scene and no suspect description was provided. The shooting is being investigated as gang-related.
