A motorist was taken into custody in South Gate Monday after leading authorities on a pursuit through East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights and then trying to get away on foot.

The pursuit began after Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies from the East Los Angeles Station observed a sedan being driven recklessly, leading them to believe the driver was intoxicated, according to an LASD official.

The driver, who was not immediately identified, failed to yield after deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the sheriff’s department reported. He led police on a pursuit through East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights before stopping and exiting the sedan in South Gate, then taking off on foot and running through a residential area before he was caught by deputies in the area of Lou Dillon Avenue and 76th Place.
