A 22-year-old Florida man was arrested in Seal Beach Monday morning for allegedly assaulting and robbing a woman he solicited for sex.
Seal Beach Police Department officers were dispatched at about 5:15 a.m. to a residence in the College Park West neighborhood on reports of a robbery, according to SBPD Lt. Julia Clasby.
Police contacted a female victim at the scene who said she was robbed and assaulted by a man she met through an online website, according to Clasby. The man — identified as Jonathan Sosa of Hialeah, Florida — solicited her services as a sex worker, and they agreed upon a meeting location in Seal Beach and a price through text messages.
The woman arrived at the College Park West residence and drove with Sosa a short distance away, where he gave her cash in exchange for her services, Clasby said.
During the encounter, Sosa demanded the woman return the money to him. Sosa allegedly assaulted the woman and retrieved the money from the car when she refused.
Sosa fled back to the residence, and the woman followed him in her vehicle, Clasby said. She ran into the house and woke up the residents inside to alert them of the assault.
A resident walked the woman outside and called the police. Responding officers found Sosa in the home and placed him under arrest on suspicion of one count of felony robbery. He was later booked at the Orange County Jail.
The woman suffered minor visible injuries to her neck, but she declined medical treatment.
Anyone with information of the robbery was asked to contact SBPD Detective Jorge Muniz at 562-799-4100, ext. 1110, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
