The suspected gunman in a gang-related drive-by shooting that left one person dead and another injured last month was arrested, police said Sunday.
Isaiah Jahfaree Lewis, 18, was taken into custody Thursday at his Colton apartment on East Santo Antonio Drive and is accused of pulling the trigger, according to the Riverside City Police Department.
Investigators said the shooting occurred at about 6:10 p.m. March 20 in the 3600 block of Douglass Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that the two victims had been dropped off at the emergency room of a hospital, police said.
One of the victims, Oran Wheaton-Esclovon, 42, of Riverside later died of his injuries. Investigators said he was not a gang member and not the intended target of the shooting, but a father to eight children and grandfather to six grandchildren.
The second victim, whose identity was not disclosed, recovered from his injuries and was later released from the hospital.
Lewis, who authorities said is a local gang member, was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and weapons violations. He remains behind bars in lieu of $2 million bail.
