A 61-year-old Hemet resident was killed Monday when their car crashed into a tree in Riverside.

The crash was reported at about 4:15 p.m. in the area of Victoria Avenue and Jefferson Street, according to Riverside Police Department Traffic Bureau Sgt. Ryan Taack.

An investigation determined a gray 1999 Toyota Camry traveling eastbound on Victoria Avenue east of Jefferson Street left the road and crashed into a palm tree in the center median.

The driver of the Camry sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Taack said. The driver’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

It was not known if drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor in the crash.

Anyone with information of the crash was asked to contact Riverside Police Department Traffic Detective G. Matthews at 951-826-8724 or gmatthews@riversideca.
