Personnel from several law enforcement agencies were scouring a rural portion of Indio Tuesday, searching for a missing hiker.
Armulfo Isaiah Acevedo, 18, of Indio was last seen Monday in the area of Jackson Street and South Bay Drive, near Shadow Lakes Estates, where he was presumptively setting off for a hike, according to the Indio Police Department.
Acevedo is known to frequent trails in the Indio Hills Badlands north of Golf Center Parkway, police said.
While it was unclear what time he was last spotted, Indio police responded to the missing hiker call about 10:30 p.m. Monday.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter was sent to assist Indio police in the search, along with Riverside County sheriff’s deputies and U.S. Border Patrol personnel.
Acevedo was described as Hispanic, 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
