A suspected bank robber accused of holding up an Indio bank by allegedly simulating a gun underneath his sweatshirt was in custody Tuesday.

Marin Ricardo De La Cruz, 31, of Indio was arrested shortly after he allegedly robbed the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 46020 Monroe St. on Monday afternoon.

He was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of robbery, with bail set at $30,000.

Patrol officers responded to the bank at 1:43 p.m. on a report that a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and facial covering had “simulated a gun underneath his clothing” and left the location with an disclosed amount of cash.

Witness statements as well as unspecified evidence collected at the scene helped police identify De La Cruz as the suspect. He was arrested at his home in the 83-300 block of Ruby Street in Indio about an hour after the robbery, according to police and jail records.

De La Cruz has no documented felony convictions.
