A sheriff’s SWAT team took a man into custody Saturday on a Covina street after he was pursued in a pickup from a family disturbance in Azusa and refused to get out of the vehicle.
The man was suspected of assault with a deadly weapon in unincorporated Azusa, according to Deputy Eric Ortiz of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The pursuit ended at 5:13 p.m. on Hollenbeck Avenue south of Cypress Street, but the man refused to get out of the pickup when ordered by deputies, according to SIB Deputy Alejandra Parra.
About 7:45 p.m., the man was taken into custody, Parra said.
A spike strip ended the pursuit, according to KCAL9, and the SWAT team eventually surrounded the truck with armored vehicles and the suspect gave up. His name was not immediately released.
