A 60-year-old man was struck and killed by a big rig in Beaumont after he stepped into oncoming traffic, perhaps intentionally, police said Wednesday.
The Beaumont resident was fatally injured about 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of North Highland Springs Avenue, near Sixth Street, according to the Beaumont Police Department.
The man walked into southbound lanes just as the tractor-trailer was approaching, leaving the driver no time to swerve or brake before impact, according to police, who said he might have intentionally placed himself in front of the semi.
The trucker was not injured, and no other vehicles were involved.
The investigation is ongoing.
