Los Angeles Sheriff’s detectives Monday were investigating the killing of a man who tried to rob a South Los Angeles marijuana dispensary and was shot to death by a security guard.

The shooting in the 1000 block of Imperial Highway was reported at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Los Angeles county Sheriff’s Deputy Eva Jimenez.

Responding deputies found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, Jimenez said. An armed security guard confronted the man and the shooting ensued. The man was transported to a hospital, where he later died. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting was asked to call the LASD’s homicide bureau at 323-890-5500. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
