A man who stabbed two barbers at a Riverside shop was shot to death by one of the victims, police said Saturday.

It happened at about 6:40 p.m. Friday at Carlos Barber Shop at 3470 La Sierra Ave., according to the Riverside Police Department.

Both stabbing victims are hospitalized in critical condition, police said.

The Riverside County coroner’s office identified the suspect as Joseph Jimenez, 33, of Riverside.

Police said Jimenez entered the shop and began an altercation before stabbing a male barber.

When a second male barber intervened, he was stabbed as well before retrieving a gun and shooting Jimenez, according to police.

Jimenez was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:27 p.m., the coroner’s office said.

There was no word on the motive for the attack.
