Sheriff’s detectives released surveillance photos Friday of a man who calmly walked up to a woman and viciously punched her at a Gardena gas station for no apparent reason.
He then continued to hit her as she was on the ground, going so far as to grab her hair and slam her head against her car.
The attack happened in the 500 block of Rosecrans Avenue around 7 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim was pumping gas into her car, when a man got out of an SUV parked in front of her calmly got out, approached and punched her, knocking her to the ground, said Deputy Grace Medrano.
While she lay on the ground, he repeatedly punched her in the face, then grabbed her hair and slammed it against her car and the ground multiple times. He then walked calmly back to his vehicle and drove away, Medrano said.
The woman told deputies she did not recognize the man and that he didn’t take any personal property from her.
She suffered severe injuries to her face and head from the attack and was transported to a hospital, but has since been released and was recuperating at home, Medrano said.
The suspect is Black. He appeared to be between 30 and 35 years old, she said. He is between 6 feet and 6 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs between 300 and 350 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark shorts, dark shoes and no shirt. His vehicle was a black Ford Expedition with black rims.
