A 64-year-old Riverside man was allegedly caught with two pounds of methamphetamine that he intended to sell, police reported Thursday.

George Lewis was booked Wednesday into the Robert Presley Jail on suspicion of possession of controlled substances and possession of controlled substances for distribution or sale, with bail set at $150,000.

According to Riverside police Officer Javier Cabrera, narcotics investigators began an investigation after being alerted to possible drug dealing out of the suspect’s residence in the 7700 block of Wells Avenue, near Montgomery Street, in recent weeks. A search warrant was obtained and served at the property about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

“During their search, investigators located two pounds of meth, which has a street value of just under $30,000,” Cabrera said.

Lewis was taken into custody without incident.

During a news briefing Wednesday, federal and local law enforcement officials said shipments of meth, fentanyl and other drugs are pouring across the border with Mexico, with street gangs transporting the narcotics into Riverside County and surrounding areas.
