A 33-year-old felon pleaded not guilty Thursday to driving while impaired and causing a crash on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Irvine that killed an 18-year-old woman and injured another victim.

Jim Christopher Rosado is charged with murder and driving under the influence of a drug causing injury, with a sentencing enhancement allegation of inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.

Vanessa Ramirez of Cudahy was killed in the crash on the northbound 405, north of Yale Avenue, about 5:25 a.m. Sunday.

Rosado was convicted on Aug. 28, 2013, in Los Angeles County Superior Court of voluntary manslaughter, according to the criminal complaint.

Rosado, who’s being held without bail, entered his plea in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana and was ordered to return to court July 1 for a pretrial hearing at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
