A 28-year-old transient pleaded guilty Tuesday to vandalizing a statue and painting at a Hindu temple in Anaheim nearly one year ago.
Julio Masaso Taufa, who has been in custody since Jan. 17, was sentenced to 180 days in jail, according to court records. He was also placed on two years of formal probation.
Taufa threw objects at a statue and painting in a prayer center at the Gayatri Consciousness Center, 2446 W. Orange Ave., about 7:30 p.m. July 6, said Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Shane Carringer.
Taufa was told he could not come in unless he took off his shoes before he hurled the objects, Carringer said.
Taufa pleaded guilty to one felony count of vandalism of religious property.
