A 55-year-old Lake Elsinore man was arrested Sunday on a felony charge for setting up a large number of dangerous fireworks in the backyard of his house for a makeshift display.
Cal Fire received a tip about the display about 5:30 p.m. and went to the home in the 32000 block of Garner Road in Lakeland Village, according to Battalion Chief Branden Smith.
“Officers arrived at the home and discovered a makeshift public display of fireworks that were fused together and prepared for an unlawful discharge assembly,” Smith said.
A sheriff’s bomb/hazardous device team dismantled the display and rendered the fireworks safe for transport and disposal, he said.
Howard Stephen Lawrence III was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on a felony count of possession fireworks without a permit and held on $10,000 bail, according to sheriff’s inmate records.
