A felon and documented gang member who is on probation was in custody Friday after his arrest on gun-possession charges, police said.
Members of the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force observed Arnulfo Carlos Sosa, 41, in the passenger seat of a parked car at 11:32 p.m. Thursday in the area of 1500 Smith Street, said Pomona police Sgt. M. Medellin.
“The officers had several contacts with Sosa in the past and knew him to be on felony probation and an active/documented gang member,” Medellin said.
When Sosa, who was in the car with another occupant, was approached by the officers, they noticed he made an attempt to conceal something under his seat and had him step out of the car, according to Medellin.
During the search, officers found the firearm and arrested Sosa, Medellin said.
Sosa was charged with possession of a loaded/unregistered firearm; being a felon in possession of a firearm; and being a felon in possession of ammunition. He was booked at the Pomona city jail.
