A speeding vehicle caught the attention of Pomona police officers and the driver wound up in jail as a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, authorities said Sunday.
The officers were on patrol in the north part of Pomona about 10:45 p.m. Saturday when they saw the vehicle, according to Pomona police Sgt. Mark Medellin.
The officers attempted a traffic stop but the driver failed to yield and the officers gave pursuit to the area of Browning Avenue and Eton Place, where the driver stopped suddenly and began to get out of the vehicle, Medellin said.
“Officers were able to quickly contact the driver who was identified as, Samuel Lamek Johnson,” the sergeant said. “Johnson was forthcoming with the officers and told them he was armed with a gun. A loaded firearm was found concealed on Johnson’s person.”
After Johnson was detained, officers searched his vehicle and found another loaded firearm and more ammunition, Medellin said.
Johnson was arrested for suspicion of illegally possessing firearms and ammunition and booked into the Pomona jail, Medellin said.
