A 52-year-old man was charged Friday in connection with a botched robbery that wounded a 73-year-old man in Santa Ana.

Antonio Vasquez Flores and three other suspects, who were still at-large, attempted to rob the man on July 7, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Sonia Rono.

Police were called about 9:45 p.m. to 1532 S. Flower St., near Edinger Avenue, where they found the victim, who was shot in the leg, Rono said.

Flores was arrested Wednesday when patrol officers found him in possession of a gun and drugs for sale, Rono said.

Flores was charged with attempted murder, criminal threats, dissuading a witness from reporting a crime, attempted robbery, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a gun, all felonies, as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Flores also faces sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a firearm, inflicting great bodily injury, discharge of a firearm and discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury.
