A 24-year-old Riverside man who allegedly raped and then tried to kill a 16-year-old girl he met via social media was being held Monday in lieu of $1 million bail.

Detectives initiated an investigation Sunday after the teenage victim arrived injured at a local hospital and reported that she’d been sexually assaulted, according to Officer Ryan Railsback of the Riverside Police Department.

Osvaldo Miguel Sebastian was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail that same day on suspicion of forcible rape, sodomy and attempted murder.

Sebastian and the girl met online, and he’d arranged for an in-person date, allegedly taking the victim to a secluded area to perpetrate the assault before letting her go, according to investigators.

The circumstances behind the attempted murder allegation were not disclosed.

Police located Sebastian in the area of Magnolia Avenue and Myers Street shortly before 3 p.m. and took him into custody without incident, Railsback said.

Investigators believe there may be other victims and that the suspect used another young woman to help him meet those victims.

The Riverside Police Department is asking anyone else who had contact with Sebastian to come forward and call 951-353-7950.
