A man accused of beating his on-and-off-again girlfriend to the brink of death before sexually assaulting her remained behind bars Sunday in lieu of $100,000 bail.
The Banning Police Department said Gabriel Sauceda, 37, was arrested at 5:40 a.m. July 30, the same morning as the alleged attack.
The victim told police that Sauceda hit her with his fists to the point that she nearly lost consciousness while she was riding in a vehicle with him.
Sauceda then allegedly became more enraged and continued to strike the victim, yelling for her to wake up before driving to a rural location near Lovell Street and West Victory Avenue, police said.
That’s where he’s accused of dragging the victim out of the car and through the dirt, kicking and strangling her before raping her, investigators said.
A few hours later, Sauceda was arrested on East Barbour Street and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on suspicion of kidnapping, carjacking, domestic violence and other crimes.
