The California Highway Patrol’s Indio office will host a “Coffee with a Cop” event later this week to foster community relationships.

The event — to be held Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon at Starbucks in the 82041 block of Avenue 42 in Indio — will give community members the chance to ask questions and learn more about the Indio CHP office’s work in the Coachella Valley.

“The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies or emotional situations,” Officer Jackie Quintero said. “Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.”

Coffee with a Cop, a national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, is aimed at helping local police departments make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
