A man was charged Friday with attempted murder for an alleged attack on a woman in her Manhattan Beach home.
Johnny Leroy Vigil, 40, of Manhattan Beach, is set to be arraigned Monday in a Torrance courtroom.
Police were called to the 200 block of El Porto Street about 3:35 a.m. Wednesday following reports of a man seen running from the backyard of a residence after a woman was heard screaming, according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department.
Officers found the woman, whose name was withheld, seriously injured on her bedroom floor. She was taken to a hospital, where she was treated for what police described as potentially life-threatening injuries, the nature of which were not disclosed.
It was also unclear whether the suspect knew the victim or whether it was a random attack.
Officers subsequently learned from witnesses and residential security video footage that the suspect had entered another residence in the 200 block of 39th Street. According to police, he threatened to kill himself if officers entered the residence, but they were able to convince him to surrender just after 4:35 a.m.
He has remained jailed without bail since his arrest, jail records show.
