Anaheim police Wednesday identified a murder suspect fatally shot by police on Tuesday.

Robert Nelson, 55, was suspected of shooting a fellow Anaheim resident identified as David Erickson, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer.

The 61-year-old victim called police about 11:55 a.m. Tuesday to a residence in the 2400 block of West Greenleaf Avenue, saying he had been shot, Carringer said.

When officers arrived and entered the home, they found Erickson dead and then were confronted by Nelson, prompting at least one officer to open fire, the sergeant said. The officers got out of the residence and called in SWAT officers, who made entry and confirmed Nelson was dead, Carringer said.

Investigators were working to determine the motive for Erickson’s killing, Carringer said.
