A 25-year-old man was charged Thursday with shooting a man outside a bikini bar in Orange.

Tomas David Villarreal was accused of shooting a 30-year-old man from Ontario outside the Second Base bar at 1535 W. Chapman Ave. about 11:40 p.m. Monday, said Sgt. Phil McMullin.

The two men, who were previously unacquainted, got into a conflict outside the bar and Villareal pulled out a gun and shot the man twice in the upper chest area, McMullin alleged.

The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but was expected to survive, McMullin said.

Villarreal was arrested about 12 hours later in Hemet and charged with single counts each of attempted murder, gross negligent discharge of a firearm, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of a prohibited person owning ammunition — all felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancements for attempted premeditated murder, personal use of a firearm, discharge of a firearm, discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury and inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 22 in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana.

Villarreal was convicted in Riverside County in June 2016 of assault with a firearm, according to court records.
