Police surrounded a building in Palm Springs Tuesday after a report regarding a man with a gun on his lap inside a business.

The Palm Springs Police Department sent a message out at around 3:30 p.m. advising the public to avoid the 600 block of South Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs due to heavy police activity in the area.

According to Lt. William Hutchinson, police were on the scene because workers at the unidentified business reported a man with a gun on his lap sitting inside.

A SWAT team was reportedly dispatched to secure the area and make an entry into the business to see if the suspect was still inside or was roaming the neighborhood, Hutchinson said.

No further information was immediately available.
