Police Thursday were investigating a fight between two students at Huntington Beach High School where one student pulled down the other’s mask.
The fight occurred Wednesday during the school’s lunch period just after 12:10 p.m., according to Huntington Beach Police Department Public Information Officer Jennifer Carey.
During the incident, about 12 adults were protesting the school’s mask mandates in another area, leading some to initially believe the fight and the protest were connected. However, investigators determined the two incidents were not related, Carey said.
The school and HBPD worked together to identify the students involved in the fight and two confirmed their involvement once they were contacted by authorities. Their names were not released, though police noted they were 16 and 17-years-old.
An investigation into the fight was ongoing and it was not immediately known if charges were to be filed, Carey said.
