A driver was hospitalized and westbound Pacific Coast Highway lanes were shut down Sunday evening after a vehicle crashed into a traffic signal.
The crash occurred at 9:30 p.m. on PCH at Bayside Drive, said Newport Beach police Sgt. S. Fabbri.
Paramedics took the injured driver to a hospital for treatment, she said.
Westbound lanes were expected to be shut down for several hours while crews made sure the traffic signal wasn’t compromised by the crash, Fabbri said. Westbound motorists were diverted onto Bayside. Only one eastbound lane remained open. Motorists were urged to avoid the area.
