A woman believed about 40-years-old died when she was struck while walking in a crosswalk by a hit-and-run motorist in the Manchester Square area of Los Angeles, authorities said Sunday.
The crash was reported about 11:25 a.m. Saturday at Normandie Avenue and 83rd Street, according to a desk officer at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Operations Center.
The incident began with a minor crash and Manchester and Normandie avenues. The driver who killed the woman fled the scene. During his attempted escape, he hit the woman in the crosswalk, KTLA reported. His car became disabled on 79th Street and he fled on foot.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. Her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
