Two people suffered chemical burns Wednesday while handling unknown substances at a Jurupa Valley residence, requiring both to be hospitalized.
The injuries were reported about 4:20 p.m. at a residence in the 6300 block of Alton Street, near Opal Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Paramedics found the adult victims, whose identities were not disclosed, inside the home, each suffering from moderate exposure burns, according to the fire department.
A hazardous materials unit was initially requested but ultimately canceled after firefighters at the scene were able to clean up the substances, which were not immediately identified.
No evacuations of surrounding properties were ordered.
Both victims were taken for treatment at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center’s Burn Center, according to reports from the scene. The parties were in stable condition.
The circumstances behind the incident were under investigation.
