The California Highway Patrol arrested three people Sunday evening after a high-speed pursuit that began in El Monte.

A gray Honda Accord was chased by El Monte police before authorities requested the CHP take over the pursuit. After the chase began, the driver went onto the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway toward Union Station and Chinatown, CBS2 reported. The pursuit headed through Lincoln Heights and then reentered the 10 Freeway.

The suspect reportedly hit speeds of 100 miles per hour on the freeway, according to the station. After exiting the 10 Freeway, the car got stuck in traffic and the occupants got out and began to scatter. Two people were still reportedly on the loose.

It’s unclear why the pursuit began in the first place.
