A man was arrested Monday after allegedly setting fires in a stockroom of a Long Beach gas station.
The incident occurred about 9:15 a.m. in the 3300 block of Atlantic Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Sean Patrick Flanary, 51, of Bellflower was booked on suspicion of arson, and bail was set at $75,000, the LBPD reported. Officers sent to the scene on a report that the man may have been armed determined that was not the case, police said.
The Long Beach Post, citing a source in the Long Beach Fire Department, reported that the man allegedly went into the gas station and “started lighting items on fire in a stockroom.”
“When an employee tried to stop him, there was an altercation, according to the LBFD, and when firefighters arrived, they called in police, thinking the man may have been armed,” the Post reported.
Firefighters extinguished the flames and helped subdue the man until officers arrived and took him into custody, the Post reported. The gas station employee was taken to the hospital to treat burns he suffered while trying to put out the fire, the Post reported.
