A pedestrian standing in the center median of Western Avenue in Gardena was struck and killed by a cargo truck Thursday.
The Gardena Police Department received a call of a traffic collision in the 17100 block of Western Avenue at 5:38 p.m. Officers learned the cargo truck was traveling northbound on Western Avenue preparing to make a left-hand turn into a business and struck the pedestrian, said Lt. Alex Rivera of the Gardena Police Department’s Traffic Bureau.
The unidentified pedestrian was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.
